Synopsis

A fantasy epic of labour, longing, and love in the lives of women and queer folks. In the medieval text of Manasa Mangal Kavya, Chand Sadagar loses his seven sons to the wrath of the snake goddess, and his youngest son’s wife, Behula, floats away with his corpse — defiant, devoted, and unforgettable. But what of the other six women? This play imagines their journeys. Some seek knowledge, some love, some escape. One wants a school, another a shop, two dream of a home together. All are haunted. Not just by gods and snakes, but by labour, desire, and the weight of what women and queer people are never allowed to want. Blending magic and the everyday, Mon Paboner Nao is a subversive epic — where only a cursed boat may carry you toward freedom.
