Synopsis

A renowned writer receives a prestigious international award for a path-breaking novel. It is about a group of intellectuals working on a top secret project to develop a suitable technology by which the first and last mistake of nature is to be eliminated – the human species. The group is convinced that the future of the rest of the planet, along with all the meticulously co-evolved life forms, is far more important than the survival of Man. The writer is abducted by a fringe group of environmental activists in a bid to get him to be a signatory to a campaign. The intelligence agency is pressed into service to rescue the writer. However, the agency also gets wind of the existence of a real project by a real group of people as described in the novel. Their interest in the rescue operation is really in nabbing the project group, so that they have first control over the technology. By the end of the tale we are left wondering if the technology has already been switched on. Presented as a dramatic tale, the play is based on numerous solid scientific facts in evolutionary biology and the human predisposition for unrealistic consumption patterns and the irreversible damage to the ecological balances that sustain the earth.
