Synopsis
Manu, a sheltered 17-year-old girl in Kolkata in the late 1990s, is seriously considering her next step in life: a move that threatens her notions of morality and selfhood and will pit her for life against her family. At this point Kumar, a distant relative, arrives with a proposition. He wants to take a biking trip to his old family estate at Shantriya, South-Western Bengal, and wants Manu’s company. Manu is eager for a break from her unloving family, and agrees to go. But what Manu does not know is that Kumar, too, has a secret: one far more shocking than her own. The Trip is a story of two idealistic individuals trying to explore their understanding of the world. It reflects an era before the tide of globalization and technology swept up Indian society, the late 1990s. In this world, it looks at two people, each at a threshold in their life, and the impact they leave on each other.
