Synopsis

Arrowheads is an early play. It began as notes from a discussion (in a theatre group exercise) on the increasing rate of divorce in urban India, and then developed into a play. Scene 1 is in the nature of a prologue. Vani finds a point of view and takes a position. A group wishing to avoid a statement in its performance may omit the prologue, and find the rest of the play compact and complete in itself. On the other hand Scene 1 may be seen as a useful springboard for the storyline to follow. It is also a capsule in itself, and offers scope for fresh explorations in rendition. The rest of the play is around the annual meeting between the estranged couple on the birthday of the daughter, revealing the difference in paths taken by the two parents in bringing up the two children, the custodies decided by a court. The time gap between the prologue and the rest of the play is not indicated, and is left to the imagination of the performers.
