Synopsis

Evening Shadows is an original English language adaptation of Sandhya Chhaya by the Marathi playwright Jaywant Dalvi. The loneliness of an elderly couple is compounded by the son not returning from America. It is the year 1971. It is an India that might already be unrecognizable by many. Although the play can be given a contemporary setting this script retains the socio-political context in the original version. The backdrop of the Bangladesh liberation war is also important to the mood of the play. The action of the entire play takes place in the living room of the small first floor apartment of Nana and Nani. It is a sparsely outfitted middle class home. The bare essentials for the action of the play are described below. The performing group may work around these features, retaining the basic character of the home.
