From communal divides, political farce to exile and war, these plays demand that we look at society’s cracks and contradictions — with urgency, humour, and empathy.
The selection of plays in Rights, Rage, Resilience (Vol. 1) brings together the stories of survival and hope in the face of violence, exile, and social upheaval.
These five plays are political and deeply personal. They confront violence and displacement on its head in various forms- from communal riots in Bombay to exile in Tibet, from queer longing in Manipur to friendship fractured by war. They deal with the scars of generational trauma- but in doing so, they do not lose the tenderness in human relationships. They connect us with the universality of scars of conflict, struggle for survival through hunger, loss, trauma in the aftermath of violence.
They are also a reminder that resilience is not just passive survival nor some abstract concept- it is in how generations remember, the way we hold each other in times of distress and how love and hope is found in the most unexpected places.
